A trip to the past: Colonial Williamsburg

This past weekend, we went to Colonial Williamsburg.  Watch the fun unfold!

A view of the main street.  You can see the church in the background.

Off to fight them Tories!

This is Lord Dunmore's Palace.  He was the last Royal Governor of Virginia before the revolution.  As you can imagine, he is a much hated character at Colonial Williamsburg.  Here we are, 'storming the palace' after the small (but mighty!) militia. Lord Dunmore was willing to acquiesce to our request to talk, but he did not abide by our demand to return the stolen ammunition.

The gardens behind Lord Dunmore's Palace.  I tried to be artistic by taking a photo of the edge of the garden.

Beautiful fall trees!

These oxen were treated really well, despite the harness.  They were over 2500 lbs apiece.

Can you spot the sheep?

Nay again!

I thought this was a beautiful little pathway in the gardens.

We ate at a traditional tavern, Christiana Campbell's Tavern, where they required us to wear bibs.  At first I thought it was strange, but as it turned out, I spilled quite a bit on it!  So it was a good precaution.

At first, Lynn fears the bib.

Quickly, Lynn becomes accustomed to, and then ecstatic with, the bib.

Then he's a bandit!

As you would expect, I was cheerful throughout.

  2. You were always good with the bibs. The training appears to have paid off. Love, Dad
