OMG, I've been MIA

Hello all! Apparently I've had writer's block for a few months now, never having updated you (my beloved reader) about our spring adventures. Let that end now!

Nova's Birthday! February 28!

Our wonderful little lady turned 6 on February 28. True to her introverted self, she didn't want a party for her birthday, she just wanted to watch movies (aka Doc McStuffins) all day. Fantastic.  However, she *did* sneak in to a friend that her birthday was coming up and could you buy me a gift? haha. So, this amazing friend asked to set up a little birthday get-together where she gave Nova sweet gifts and the girls (and boy) played together. Perfection.

Oh yes. And cake.  There had to be cake.

Ok, so I'm writing this in May and cannot remember when this head bump happened!  Poor girl!

The Most super Superman
I am one of "those" parents, who gives the non-birthday child a birthday gift, too.  Lynx got a Superman costume for Nova's birthday and has worn it *almost* every day since mid-February. Here's Superman in all his glory.

When he falls asleep during quiet time, I can't resist taking photos.

Back To School!
Nova spent the entire first three quarters of school online.  But, on March 15, the county's public school system opened up in-person learning! Huzzah! Nova had a great first day, and loves school. Phew.

She refused the traditional "first day of school" photos, so I had to improvise.  You'll see the leg of Superman in the van there.

This check-in attendant was the absolute BEST. So welcoming and let us take our time despite the line of cars behind us. Just what I needed to help me take a long sigh of relief.

Nova got this Student of Excellence award, which won her a free personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut! Now we're really living!

She and I completed the requisite process of tossing most of her schoolwork from the year.  She was a champ: efficient and effective! She got rid of most of it - hurray!

Stimulus Check - Just doin' my duty.
We got our stimulus check back in February, and I had a list of things I'd always wanted, but never wanted to spend the money on. Well, Uncle Sam's orders were to stimulate the economy, so I did! I got Nova her coat for next year, I got a hammock (No roughhousing!!) a tent, a food processor (I've never had one) and hydroponic garden. All great purchases that I've really enjoyed! Go Uncle Sam!

And now for cute sayings by my kids:

NOVA:

May 1

They were playing sharks and minnows at baseball practice. Nova came over to get a drink and said,”I didn’t like being a shark. I only want to be a mineral.”

Nova thinks the game Angry Birds is called Happy Chickens

March 15

First day of school. Nova comes down the stairs, nervous. We cuddle, talk about it. Then she has breakfast and keeps pouting. Once I say she can watch a video while I comb her hair, she perks up, so excited. After the video, I say,”Listen nova. You’re going to kindergarten no matter what. The only thing you gave control over is your attitude about it.” She’s quiet for a minute. Then, “I can’t wait to go to school!!” And the rest of the morning was perfect.

Nova and I keep thinking the same thing at the same time. It’s getting weird! February 18, I said, why dint you use this hat to keep your hands warm. She said, I was thinking the same thing!” Stuff like that happens all the time. Sometimes, she says something, and I am the one to say,"I was just thinking that!"

LYNX:

February 2021
“Let’s play marry and I be the Hulk marrying you Nova! I be gentle dancer!”

I just had this convo with Lynx.
Me: sometimes dogs get sick.
Lynx: why? They couldn’t find a tree?
Me: 🤔
Me: did you say tree?
Lynx: yes. If all the trees are gone, we will all be sick.
He (kind of) understood a lesson about the environment!

“Here comes monster feelings!”

March 2021
“My favorite thing is being with daddy and you.”

Lynx:  Dadda, in order for me to be happy, you need to not be lookin.
Lynn: You want to get dressed yourself?
Lynx:  Yeah, I does.
🥰

(While Nova is at school): Lynx: let’s not go to the park because I don’t want nova to miss out.
